Hiking Tour in Namibia

For the energetic traveler there can be no better way to explore Namibia than on foot. We offer guided hiking trails and cater for everyone from the hardened hiker to the inexperienced (but enthusiastic) couch potato with a taste of adventure.

On the trails you will become aware that there is no trace of human existence within a hundred miles of you; not a cloud in the sky; a pristine environment; unique landscapes; diverse terrain; experienced guides who know the trails by heart. It's just you, your travelling companions and annoying flies. Bliss.

The night you will be sleeping under the stars in the world’s oldest desert listening to the sounds of Namibia’s nightlife.

After breakfast we  start the Waterkloof Trail. If you start from the camping site, it is around 20 km and you will need around 8 hours to complete it. This is a circular self-guided trail situated in the Naukluft Park.

The start and end is at the office. You then will be walking upstream in the Naukluft River through some beautiful gorges, often filled with rock pools after the rains (Which are few and far between – and celebrated). Amongst this great scenery we hope to be lucky enough to be seeing some wildlife. Klipspringer, Mountain Zebra and a variety of birdlife and flora can be sighted on this hike. This hike is in general easier than that of the Olive Trail, but the distance and a steep climb or two can make this one more challenging.

After breakfast, you will be taken to the starting point of the Olive Trail. This trail requires 4 and half to 5 hours to complete. It is quite challenging – requiring some rock hopping and the famous “chains” that you will have to conquer. This circular trail starts with a climb to the top of a small plateau with a magnificent view, where you then climb down into a gorge, which you follow for most of the way. Then towards the end, after the chains, you join on a rough 4x4 track that leads you back to the car park where you started. Quiver trees as well as Euphorbia can be seen in the gorge. The terrain gets quite difficult once in the gorge - here you have to climb onto and over a few large boulders and towards the end there is quite a tricky bit involving a chain.  A beautiful, exciting hike!!

In the morning, drive to Cape Cross, all along the ocean. Here is one of the biggest seal colonies in Namibia. Our length of stay is weather dependant.  In the afternoon drive back past Swakopmund, enroute to Walvis Bay, in the hope to see the sunset over the lagoon  - with some flamingo’s.

After breakfast,  you explore the Namib Desert with a specialist  to  show you all the animals that live under the Namib Desert sand. (All depends what time of the year you visit: option of Living Desert Tour or Kayaking on the lagoon) From here, we drive inland to reach the foot of the Spitzkoppe also called the Matterhorn of Africa to watch the red sunset walking on pink granite.

For the very early risers we offer the sight of the rocky peak igniting at the sun rise. After breakfast you can explore the massive boulder and the beautiful rock art sites. The first part is very steep and you will be assisted by a chain that is fixed to the rock up to the top of the mountain – about a  10 minutes climb;  after that the walking pace is much more relaxed leading all the way round the mountain and bring us back to the camp at lunchtime.  After lunch we  depart to Ameib Ranch.

In the morning hike and explore the Bull’s Party and Phillips Cave paintings – Bushman paintings. It is not a strenuous walk. Relax and explore.

We will leave the rolling boulders of Bull Party behind us and on the way to Omaruru visit the Bushman, which ancestors are responsible for all the beautiful paintings that you have seen. Our destination the Etosha National Park we will reach in the afternoon.
